It's so hard to believe that I'm looking at an 18 month old boy, it feels as if it was yesterday that he could fit in one arm. Watching Mason grow and develop into this mini human has been the most rewarding experience of mine and Tiff's life. Sometimes we wonder if this was our purpose all along, just sit here and raise Mason. (and by sitting I mean running).
As spring starts showing up around here, we started taking Mason out more and more and he loves running around the park, being pushed around in the stroller or walking along side us. Going back inside is a big no no and he's determined to let us know that. Last week we had an hour long tantrum because we had to come inside to nap. -Rude parents.
His love for books is still there and growing. He loves toys and stuffed/soft animals but he always sits down for a good book. He also loves his play dates with his friends and seems to enjoy these so much more now as he gets a little older. He doesn't display any type of sharing issues which I was surprised considering he doesn't have to share any of his toys on a regular basis- we will see how this develops as he gets older.
A week before Mason turned 18 months, he went through a massive leap in which he started responding and talking much more than before. We were surprised that he suddenly seemed to comprehend so much more, for example, you can now ask for a hug and he'll come and give you a hug ( most of the time), you can ask for a kiss and you may get his cheek so you can give him a kiss. He seems to understand things mostly in English and some Spanish but currently, I believe his dominant language is English and I'm supposed to work with him more on the Spanish. Also, his dominant hand seems to be the left.
Mason at 18 months is demanding to be given his toothbrush and wants no help in doing it, he does it himself and will tell you "all done" when he's done with the toothbrush. He does this with the hair brush as well. Mason is saying somewhere around 40 words which include all the characters from the Mickey Mouse Club house + Winnie the Pooh as "poo"
As parents you can only but hope that your son is healthy and developing as he should, I pray that this feeling of "it cant get any better this" continues to be present in our life. We have no words to describe how much our life has changed since Mason arrived into this world. We are the luckiest parents and I'm so immensely grateful for this.
