Letters to Mason: Five Months

Guess we blinked again and here is our little boy weighing 21 pounds and 27 inches long, wearing 18 month old clothes and learning to be more independent.

This is the first month since Mason was born that I feel like he's no longer an infant.Watching him almost sitting, rolling over, being on the jumper and sitting in his high chair to eat make him look more like a toddler than a little tiny baby. Aside from those particular traits, Mason's personality is starting to develop and show; we can tell when he doesn't like something (oh boy do we ever) or when we love something (instant cackle). It has been a great month because we have discovered how much he dislikes being fed or put to sleep laying down like a "small baby" and how now he asks to have independent time- whether that involves being seated with a few toys, or put on the jumper or simply laying him in his crib to fall asleep on his own. Yes, this past month, Mason has decided that he no longer wants to be put to sleep, he'd like to do it on his own. I'm not going to complain by any means, but this does make us realize that we have a very independent lovable little boy in our hands.

Happy is happy, this little dude is the happiest baby. Yes he has started having mini second long tantrums to tell us he no longer wants to do something, but for the most part, there are many different ways that we discover daily, that are funny enough to make us laugh, a LOT.

One of the sweeter things he's started doing is touching our faces. He'll run his hands down our cheeks, through our hair, he'll try to eat our face and it's just tender. He specially does this with Tiff and you can start to see that difference in how he treats his momma and how he is just slightly rougher with me. I also tend to be "rougher" with him when we play; he loves when I bring him above my head and bring him down quickly followed by a tickle fest!

Our life feels "normal" with Mason like he's been living with us for years. We have a great routine going and he falls right in line with that. He goes to Mita's house everyday and he loves his time with his grandparents. We have also seen our friends who have an almost year old baby and we are excited as our boys get closer in age to be able to interact with each other and become the friends we know they will be. Along those same lines, Mason has quiet a few friends already, his friend Emmett is younger by 2 months and will likely see lots of him once this winter ends, his friend Eli who I mentioned first, and his friend Lexi who is a riot of a girl and will likely rule over all the boys.

Tiff Mason and I are living the present, no question about that, we are cherishing every milestone Mason has and every moment we have with our family. We are excited for spring and for the walks that we will be taking and the outside air and just watching Mason grow and play outside.

Mason
Mommy and I are so proud of your progress. You are kicking these milestones in the butt and not looking back at the dust you're leaving behind. You are sweet and smart and our life will never be the same, ever. We are living life through your eyes and its so much more fun!

Thank you for bringing so much life and joy to our life, for teaching us to "loose" plans and time and deadlines. Nothing matters except the day to day activities we experience and watching you explore your surroundings, reminding us just how blessed we are.

Mason, I love being your dad. You've helped me discover things about myself that defy logic- like how little sleep I need or how much I'll run to get home so I can have two minutes with you before you fall asleep.

This is only the beginning and we could not be more excited, proud and elated to see what's next.

Love , mom and dad.
